Last week, we talked about the then-trial separation of Christina Aguilera and Jordan Bratman, speculating that the two might possibly attempt to avoid divorce for the sake of their young son. However, not long after that post, Aguilera filed for divorce in California Superior Court in Los Angeles, citing the oft-used "irreconcilable differences" as the grounds for the split.

In the divorce petition, Aguilera listed the couple's date of separation as September 11, 2010 and asked the court to award her joint physical and legal custody of their son, two-year-old Max. Aguilera also requested that no spousal support be awarded to Bratman, and that both parties pay their own legal fees.

The petition also makes reference to a prenuptial agreement, which will likely govern any financial settlement the two may reach. In addition to the undisclosed prenup, Aguilera requested that the court award her personal property including "miscellaneous jewelry and other personal effects". She also asked that her "earnings and accumulations...before marriage, during marriage, and from and after the date of separation" be deemed separate property by the court.

According to CelebrityNetWorth.com, Aguilera has a net worth of approximately $60 million, a large portion of which came from the sale of her first album. In comparison, Bratman is worth approximately $15 million, the website says. Additionally, the couple received $1.5 million from People magazine for the rights to the first photos of their son. With great wealth often comes great conflict, so it will be interesting to see how this potentially contested divorce plays out in the coming months.

Bratman, a music marketing executive at Aguilera's management firm, met his future wife in 2002. After three years of dating, the two were married in Napa Valley in 2005. According to a statement by Aguilera, their son, who was born in 2008, remains the couple's top priority. "Although Jordan and I are separated, our commitment to our son Max remains as strong as ever," she said.
