On this blog, we have hesitated to write about the ongoing battle between Mel Gibson and Oksana Grigorieva, primarily because there was nothing substantial to report except the couple's embarrassingly public bickering about issues relating to the custody and financial support of their one-year-old daughter, Lucia. However, it was recently reported that a California judge ordered Gibson to pay child support and to allow Grigorieva and their daughter to live rent-free in his California home.

Citing unnamed sources, website Radar Online reported that Gibson and Grigorieva met face-to-face in a closed hearing in a Los Angeles court this week. The proceeding concluded with Gibson being ordered to pay Grigorieva $60,000 in back child support. In addition, Gibson must allow Grigorieva and the couple's daughter to live rent-free in his Sherman Oaks home until the issues between the parties are permanently resolved.

According to Radar Online, the ruling means that Gibson must attempt a new legal tactic in his ongoing battle against Grigorieva. "This morning, a judge ordered Mel to give up his fight to have rent deducted from Oksana and Lucia's monthly child-support allowance of $20,000 per month," the website said.

In an earlier custody hearing, Gibson was awarded continuing visitation with his daughter, despite Grigorieva's allegations that Gibson hit Grigorieva when she held then-nine-month-old Lucia. According to court documents, Grigorieva also alleged that the child repeatedly came back 'acting funny' after a night at Mel's, although she would not elaborate on what 'funny' meant.

In an interesting twist, Gibson's ex-wife, Robyn, defended her ex-husband in court, stating that "Mel never engaged in any physical abuse of any kind toward me before, during, or after our marriage," adding that "Mel was a wonderful father."
