Earlier this month, the wife of Los Angeles Laker star Kobe Bryant filed for divorce from her husband of 10 years. According to a report in The Huffington Post, the couple did not have prenuptial agreement, which means that Vanessa Bryant may be entitled to half of her soon-to-be-ex-husband's basketball salary and endorsement earnings.

Although Vanessa Bryant has not made a public statement regarding her reasons for the divorce, many entertainment websites are speculating that Kobe's ongoing infidelity largely motivated her decision to file.

In 2003, Kobe was accused of sexually assaulting a young woman who worked at a hotel at which he and his basketball teammates were staying. He denied that he had committed a crime, but admitted to have consensual sex with the woman. Vanessa famously decided to stand by Kobe throughout the incident. "I know that my husband has made a mistake," she said, "the mistake of adultery. He and I will have to deal with that within our marriage, and we will do so."

Kobe and Vanessa Bryant married in April 2001, when Kobe was 21 and Vanessa was 18. They reportedly did not sign a prenup when they got married. If that is the case, Vanessa may be entitled to half of Kobe's earnings under California community property laws. He is believed to have made more than $25 million this year alone.

However, the couple released a statement saying that they have reached a financial and custody settlement which will likely be signed in early 2012. They have two daughters, ages 5 and 8.
